“On a scale of 1-10, 100….”

  • Josie Bloom officiated, and more, for our marriage on October 29, 2021.  Words cannot capture the stunning and moving experience she created, but we can try.  First, she was far and away the most professional of all the officiants we interviewed.  We worried about nothing and she handled everything, including the mailing of the documents to the City Clerk following the marriage.  More telling is that she arranged everything in only three days so that we could maintain the 29th as our anniversary date (being the 1980 date we met, and the 2010 date of Domestic Partnership).  Even better, she was genuinely excited about the prospect of keeping the date and making the ceremony infinitely better than we imagined.  Josie gave us a marriage when we expected a signing, and did it all for the most reasonable rate we found.  She is definitely worth much more. We envisioned a simple 10-minute signing of the marriage license (which we could not get until the 26th), but she was so right on insisting that the ceremony be so much greater than what we requested.  This was no “fill-in-the-blank” list drawn from our responses to her comprehensive and imaginative questionnaire; Josie provided a major construction, a ceremony which was one of the best weddings we have attended, ever.  Because of Corona, we could only have two witnesses and three guests--and we were very reassured when Josie asked if they were vaccinated.  She agreed to conducting the ceremony in our living room, and, despite the small size of the party, it turned into a truly grand affair.  One of our guests told us later that, apart from his own, this was the best wedding he had ever attended.   Josie created a ceremony that was humorous (yet profound, mixing all elements seamlessly and in perfect proportion).  It was astonishingly personal, (she even used observations she made in the half hour she spent with us and our friends prior to the ceremony), seemingly culled from years of knowing us, when she had only our writing and that brief period together.  She was extraordinarily perceptive, using what we provided in ways we never expected, but which were always spot on, warm, amusing, and moving all at once.  We did not expect to be so newly moved, so respected, and so caught up in the time, given our 41 years together.  She truly brought all of it, and all of us, to a new level.  Our gratitude continues to this day, and she gave us a day we will always keep alive in every detail.   On a scale of 1-10, 100."
